About the role
The University of Leicester is seeking to appoint an outstanding academic as a Professor in Law with first class academic leadership and management skills and an excellent track record in research, to join an ambitious Law School recently ranked 18th in the Guardian University Guide 2022 rankings. We are ambitious in REF 2021 and hoping to improve on our REF 2014 position (for which we were ranked 26th in THE for Law), and in turn improve on that in REF 2028.
The role is intended to provide research leadership within the Law School: helping to consolidate existing strengths and develop new projects and initiatives working across the School and University as a whole. You will undertake research of a world-leading standard, attract significant research funding, and contribute to teaching and administration. You will make a significant contribution to the School’s reputation, building on existing strengths and raising levels of research activity, research income, teaching excellence and the visibility of the School.
We are looking to make two appointments at Chair level; neither appointment is restricted to particular areas of law. However, we have a particular interest in critical legal scholars and feminist legal scholars. The candidates might add to existing research strengths we have, such as European and International Law (including private international law), Medical Law and Socio-Legal studies, or they might allow us to capitalise on emerging strengths such as Social Justice and Inclusion.
The successful candidate will work as part of a vibrant team alongside colleagues within Leicester Law School and across the University, and will play a key role in the School’s continued success and future ambitions.
With a PhD in Law, you will have a proven record of research achievement and an established international reputation as a legal scholar. You will be able to evidence this through external grant capture, publications in peer reviewed journals and other relevant outputs.
With a track record of training and mentoring research students and experience of building effective collaborative relationships, you will have a clear future research plan and a commitment to high quality teaching, ensuring our students get the best experience possible.
